Thing #1 7 1/2 Lifelong Learner Lessons

After viewing the  7 1/2 Lifelong Lessons tutorial I was actually pretty surprised to find that I exhibited many of the lifelong lessons that were described. However, I definitely do not exhibit lesson number one in which the tutorial stresses the importance of keeping a goal or end point in mind. When I try to learn something, I never focus on what the end result  will be. I feel that it takes away from the interest of learning if one goes into the experience already expecting what they are going to get out of it. For me, the fun and interest of learning is the discovery of knowledge not the focus of an end goal. Maybe I still have some learning to do myself on the topic?

Alternatively, the lesson that I would most prescribe to myself would be to view problems as challenges. Every single time I have a problem I consider it a personal attack on my ability to do something and I do everything in my power to fix the problem and rise to the challenge. I remember when I moved out of my parents house and moved in with my brother (both of us being avid gamers with multiple systems and computers) and the problem of connecting all the computers and consoles together arose. We were having a lot of problems trying to do it and I decided that no matter what, the problem could be fixed and I was going to do it. After spending almost 24 hours working on it one day I finally managed to network all of the devices together even after my new found room mates condemnation.

As for what I expect to learn from using web 2.0 tools... well I am not entirely sure. I consider myself to be above average when using technology so I am not sure how challenging the tasks I am set to partake in are going to be. So far in creating this new blog and making this first post I find myself simply performing tasks rather than learning how to do new things. I remember when I was around the age of eleven experimenting with Geocities, (at least when it was offered in the United States), and creating a few websites based on T.V. shows that I was interested in. Because of this, using a website to create another one is rather easy for me.  However, as I said earlier, I believe that going into this new experience trying to figure out what I want really drains the discovery out of it. In the end, I truly hope that something, if not everything, challenges me in these tasks because one can never learn too much.
