Thing #5 Web 2.0

After having read many of the articles outlined for thing #5 I would have to say the term Web 2.0 is silly. I have been using the web every since I was a child and I have found it the entire time extremely easy to make webpages and share content. While I never used HTML programming to create a website from scratch, many companies offered services, almost all of them for free, that allowed you to create a page and share it. Sharing was done through talking to family and friends, browsing forums or chat boards, or even talking to strangers in a chat room. My point would be that Web 2.0 was always there, its just been made easier and our society has changed because of the web.

School 2.0 for me is much of the same thing. School 2.0 is simply schools learning how to use the internet for more than just research. While this will change education dramatically, I do not believe that it is deserving of an entire new name like it was some sort of catastrophic change in schools. As one of the videos pointed out, its as simple as a change from chalkboards to paper. The school will remain the same, it will just use technology a lot more as paper is slowly phased out.

To sum up my thoughts, 2.0 for the Web and Schools is simply pointless. Its a term trying to describe a change in the internet that in my opinion did not exist. I think that was has happened is that Web 1.0 was a age when a very small portion of the population used the internet and Web 2.0 is simply the majority using the internet and its affects on our society.
